BARI SAXOPHONE QUARTET
ANTONELLO USTINO, After studying at the Conservatory of L’Aquila under the guidance of Professor E. Sallustio, he took master classes with F. Mondelci, J. M. Londeix and E. Rousseau.
Graduated from “Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali”of Teramo (Italy)in saxophone with first class honours. He plays with several chamber ensembles including duo either with the piano or with the harp, as well as member of the “ Bari Saxophone Quartet”.
He performs as soloist with orchestra (“Orchestra Abruzzese I Sinfonici”, “Sud String Ensemble”, “Wind Orchestra A. Vessella”) and has collaborated with “Orchestra di Roma e del Lazio” and previously with “Orchestra della Rai” of Rome. He has performed for important musical associations as well as “Città del Vaticano”, “Università Cattolica del
Sacro Cuore” of Rome, “Università degli Studi di Tor Vergata”, “Università degli Studi Roma Tre”.
He played as soloist at the Festival “BussottiOperaBallet” under the artistic direction of the famous composer Sylvano Bussotti.
In 1989 he won the National Competition for the first alto saxophone organized by “Banda della Guardia di Finanza”; since then and until 1997 he collaborated with that band recording and playing in the most important Italian theatres (“Teatro alla Scala” of Milan, “Teatro La Fenice” of Venice, “Teatro San Carlo” of Naples, “ Teatro dell’Opera” of Rome, “Accademia di Santa Cecilia”, “Auditorium Rai” of Rome and Turin) performing often original scores composed by famous musicians (I. Stravinsky, A. Schonberg, D. Milhaud). In 1992 he represented Italy at the 10° World Saxophone Congress where he performed world premiere. In 1997 he won the National Competition for teaching saxophone at Italian Conservatories.
P. BENEDETTO, Graduate in Saxophone at the Music Conservatory “N. Piccinni” in Bari with honors, under the guidance of Mr Claudio Ceschini and graduate in Jazz Music, with Mr Roberto Ottaviano. Refined with the french concert musician Jean- Marie Londeix during his international music summer courses in Macerata. Winner of several national music contests, he worked togheter , as soloist and as orchestral, with Bari’s and Teramos’s Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmonica Mediterranea, Orchestra della Magna Grecia of Taranto, Collegium Musicum, under the direction of Daniel Oren – Rudolf Barshai – Luis Bacalov – Michele Marvulli – Rino Marrone – Marco Renzi – Gregorio Goffredo – Enzo Ferraris – Paolo Lepore – Nicola Scardicchio – etc.. He recorded for a large number of Radio-Televisions as RAI, german SUDWESTFUNK and varios private broadcasters. He performed different concerts on the compositions by: Salvatore Sciarrino, Franco Donatoni, Paolo Lepore, Luigi Morleo, Giampaolo Schiavo, Giuseppe Monopoli, Paolo Messa. He collaborated with: Bob Mintzer, Eddie Daniels, Randy Brecker, Vince Mendoza, Bobby Watson, Dave Liebman, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Tullio Depiscopo, Giorgio Gaslini, Dusko Goykovic, Tony Scott, Marcello Rosa, Roberto Ottaviano, Enrico Intra, Paolo Fresu, Maurizio Giammarco, Michael Moosmann, Enrico Rava, Pino Minafra, Gianluigi Trovesi, Bruno Tommaso, Willem
Breuker, Michel Godard, Marco Tamburini, Piero Odorici, Ute Lemper, Michele Placido, Claudia Koll, Rossana Casale, Gino Paoli, Ornella Vanoni, Mariella Nava, Mario Rosini e altri. He performed abroad at: Philharmonie di Berlino – Donaueschinger Musiktage (Germania), Jazzfestival Saalfelden (Austria), La Villette Jazz Festival di Parigi – Europe Jazz Festival di Le Mans -Opera di Lille (Francia), Queen Elizabeth Hall (Londra), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (Inghilterra), ecc.
MICARELLI ROBERTO, Micarelli Roberto studied Saxophone at the Conservatory of Pescara. In 1989 He graduated with honors there. Later, He attended master classes with world-renowned saxophonists, like Rousseau and especially with Jean-Marie Londeix. He appeared as soloist in the Symphony Orchestra of Oradea (Romania) and in the Symphony orchestra of the Province of Bari. He was also a member of important collaborations with many symphony orchestras, as: Philharmonic Orchestra delle Marche, Orchestra Fabriano Festival, Symphony Orchestra of the Province of Bari, Symphony Orchestra di Oradea, Orchestra del Lazio, Orchestra teatro lirico di Cagliari. He participated, with different formations, in numerous national and international competitions, where he gained acclaim and awards. He made recordings for Edipan, KHO Multimedia Productions,Collegno, Rara Music WorX, and He also made radio recordings for RAI. Recently He wrote “Il Giovane Saxofonista”, it is a method published by music publishing Eufonia. It is used in many schools and Italian conservatories. He taught in several Italian conservatories as: Conservatory of Cosenza, Vibo-Valentia and Matera.He won the Ministerial competitions for teaching saxophone, and its qualification and tests, in Music Conservatories.
VALTER NICODEMI, He studied saxophone at the Conservatory “A. Casella “in L’Aquila under the guidance of E. Sallustio and R. Mauriello. He graduated with honors in 1985. His concert career began early as a student in collaboration as added by RAI Symphonic Orchestra of Rome and the Rome Opera Theatre.
In 1983 he participated in the tribute to A. Webern, organized by Roman Vlad, for centenary of the composer’s birth, where he played the quartet op. 22, at the Institute of Austrian Culture in Rome; the same event was replicated in Vienna and recorded for the State Radio. At the same time he gave concerts in Italy with the ensemble of wind instruments of the
Conservatory of L’Aquila. He started the activity as teacher of saxophone in 1989/90. He performed in duo (saxophone and piano) and saxophone quartet. He recorded for RCA and YEP Record. He is the founder and President of the Orchestra “Italian Big Band”, doing more than 200 concerts with the role of 1st tenor saxophone, in Italy and abroad. He recorded three CDs with the Fonè label. He had an intense activity with RAITV and RADIORAI, doing more than 120 transmissions.
In 1996, always with the Italian Big Band, he made his debut for the Italian Embassy in the UAE, that was replicated in 1999 because of the big success it got. In 1999 he taught at the summer course “Grottammare festival” organized by the concert “of Belvoir Castle” and in 2004 and 2005/2006 the summer courses in Carloforte Sardinia. He has been assistant saxophone courses of Dr. Eugene Rousseau held in Italy (Teramo, Vicenza, Trapani, Sassari). He’s the author of a composition for saxophone and orchestra which was performed in May 2007 by Eugene Rousseau with the BARI Symphony Orchestra. In 2011 he founded the OPEN SAXOPHONE QUINTET, with which he did different concerts and recorded the CD, “Crossover”.
Now he works with the BARI SAXOPHONE QUARTET and ITALIAN BIGBAND.
